Yanni Hufnagel Brings His Recruiting Expertise to the Wolf Pack

Yanni Hufnagel has quickly made a name for himself as one of the top recruiters in the college basketball world. The thirty-something Jewish kid from Scarsdale, New York, received his degree from Cornell University before becoming an assistant basketball coach for Harvard. During Yanni Hufnagel’s time there, the team rocketed to success, winning the Ivy League and producing Jeremy Lin.


Hufnagel got his start calling basketball games for Scarsdale’s public-access TV station. He followed this by interning with the New Jersey Nets while at Cornell. He received a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, where he also worked as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team.


After graduating, Yanni Hufnagel first found success at Pennsylvania’s Lehigh University. In 2009, he landed a job with Harvard, where he quickly became known for recruiting talented athletes, such as Lin.


Yanni Hufnagel spent 2013 on the coaching staff of the Vanderbilt Commodores. While there, he built upon his reputation as one of college basketball’s best recruiters by helping Vanderbilt land Wade Baldwin IV, who has gone on to play for the Memphis Grizzlies.


Hufnagel found even more success at the University of California, Berkeley. While on their coaching staff, he helped recruit Ivan Rabb, Jaylen Brown and Tyrone Wallace. During his tenure, the Golden Bears earned their highest seed ever in the NCAA Tournament.


In 2016, Yanni Hufnagel officially became a member of the University of Nevada Wolf Pack. He’s there as an assistant coach, where he’ll continue his excellence in recruiting promising athletes.
