Prior to becoming CEO of the news and online content division of Mexico’s Televisa, Porfirio Sanchez Galindo was Chief of Staff to the Mexican Secretary of the Treasury. An outgoing marketing executive at the company tapped Sanchez to become his successor, and thus began the young executive’s rise at one of Mexico’s most important institutions. Before taking the helm of Editorial Televisa, as the conglomerate’s news operation is called, Sanchez spent around seven years developing and marketing special media projects for Televisa’s umbrella company.
A native of Mexico City, Sanchez attended ITAM, one of Mexico’s most prestigious universities, graduating with a degree in applied math. He also attended graduate school for two years at Carnegie Mellon University, where he carried out research at the Institute for Software Research. Upon returning to Mexico, he joined the Mexican Treasury Department, where he had a distinguished career, quickly rising through the ranks.
In addition to being successful in business, Sanchez believes that it is equally important to be a good citizen. During his time as a Mexican Treasury official, he took time out of his important role to help Doctors without Borders expand their reach and achieve their mission. For Porfirio Sanchez Galindo, giving back is a huge part of being successful.
In 2014, while still a marketing executive at Televisa, Sanchez was named one of 30 rising stars to watch in Mexican business by the trade magazine Expansión. In fact, one of the projects he worked on in his former position was YOO, a new brand that offered cable television, Internet access, and mobile phone service in one bundle, a first in the Mexican market. According to his former boss, who is now a management consultant, Sanchez is a star when it comes to devising new and exciting marketing concepts.
Porfirio Sanchez Galindo’s new role as head of Editorial Televisa is no less than challenging in the competitive online market, where the hunt for advertising clients never ends. However, Sanchez has never been afraid of a challenge and knows that with hard work and dedication Editorial Televisa will enjoy continued success.
